Francois Masse's Rink.
I was late getting started this year and I had a lot to do in a very short amount of time. Anyone who has put up any decent backyard rink knows that you can quickly run out of time if you don't plan in advance and give yourself ample time to build the rink.

First and foremost, I decided to double the rink size to about 30sqft. To make it a little more fun for the kids, I added boards and put up a meshed fence around the rink to catch any wayward pucks.

So with the plan in my head, I set off to the local Home Depot to pick up some timber & hardware that I would later supplement with what I already had in the workshop. It wasn't long before I realized that this small project had now ballooned to a much larger one. How could that be?

After 2-3 weekends of off-and-on work, the rink was up and I was ready to lay the tarp down. The cold weather had already settled in, and there was about an inch of snow on the ground. It was too cold to paint the boards white, so I decided to make full use of the white tarp that I had from last year to cover the boards. That took way too many staples. I would not recommend it to anyone, but it got me out of a tight jam. Later, I added laminated NHL team logo posters on the board around the rink.
